Kentucky Agate Argentium Sterling Silver Ring size 8.5

This cabochon of Kentucky Agate has a very unique red band that looks like bright lipstick. I’ve also hammer textured the thick band.

Kentucky Agate is the state’s official gemstone, and it certainly has earned the distinction! Kentucky agates are highly prized because of their distinctive colors and patterns.

It’s such unique material that a book has been written about it!
They are rather notorious for lots of fracture lines, so finding and cutting the material isn’t easy; in fact I spent a couple of days and a lot of walking the different shows at the yearly Tucson Gem Festival- to no avail. I found one slab but it didn’t have the beautiful red banding that I am keen on.
Looks like a trip to Kentucky may be in my future!
In the meantime I’m beginning to collect some more of this material and now that my husband is retired and cutting stones we should have more Kentucky Agate available soon.
